McNeese baseball will continue its home stand with two mid-week games, starting March 24 against Southern and followed by a matchup against Louisiana Christian on March 25.
These games are part of a 10-game stretch at Joe Miller Ballpark for McNeese. Both contests are scheduled for a 6 p.m. start, with Tuesday’s game available for viewing on ESPN+. Southern enters the series with a record of 7-15, while Louisiana Christian holds a strong overall mark of 26-6 and is ranked fifteenth in the latest National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Division I Top 25 poll.
The Cowboys currently have an overall record of 12-11 after winning their recent Southland Conference weekend series over Southeastern. In that series, McNeese scored a total of 24 runs on 33 hits across three games, including seven doubles and five home runs.
Offensively, McNeese has posted a team batting average of .257 this season. Danny Barbero leads the squad with an average of .389, which stands as the second-highest in the Southland Conference and ranks among the top one hundred nationally in NCAA statistics. Barbero also tops the team charts with five home runs and twenty-six runs batted in. Other key contributors include Matt Stancliff (.341) and Hayden Stringfellow (.310).
Tuesday’s meeting marks the second time this season that McNeese faces Southern; their previous encounter resulted in a Cowboys victory by a score of fourteen to five earlier this month in Baton Rouge.
After these mid-week contests, McNeese will step out of conference play to host Abilene Christian for a three-game weekend series. In current Southland Conference standings, Northwestern State, UTRGV (University of Texas Rio Grande Valley), and Lamar are tied at first place with records of eight wins and four losses each.
