McNeese athletes achieved several top three finishes, including two event wins, at the ULL Louisiana Classics track and field competition held Saturday in Lafayette.
The results highlight strong performances from both the men’s and women’s teams. Jaslyn Russell won the women’s shot put with a season-best throw of 48-11.75, outdistancing her nearest competitor by more than four inches. Lawson Fritsch matched his season best in the men’s pole vault, clearing 15-7 to take first place.
Russell also placed third in the women’s hammer throw with a mark of 168-5. Fancy Jelagat finished third in the women’s 800 meters, setting a personal record with a time of 2:13.42. The Cowgirls’ 4×400 meter relay team secured third place after running their fastest time this season at 3:49.04.
On the men’s side, Tanny Beard took second place in the javelin throw with a distance of 194-11, while Amire Ledet finished third in the triple jump with a leap of 46-11.5. Other notable performances included Simon Larsen’s personal record of 10.77 seconds in the men’s 100 meters and James Boutte’s fifth-place finish in the men’s 1500 meters with a personal best time.
The meet provided an opportunity for McNeese athletes to test their progress during the outdoor season and set new personal or season records across multiple events.
