The City of Lake Charles Mayor’s Armed Forces Commission will hold a tribute for National Vietnam War Veterans Day on March 28 at 10 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park, according to a Mar. 23 announcement. The event is organized to honor United States Armed Forces veterans who served during the Vietnam War and will feature speakers from the Mayor’s Armed Forces Commission, as well as opportunities for family and friends to remember loved ones lost in the conflict.

The commemoration aims to recognize all United States Armed Forces personnel with active-duty service between November 1, 1955, and May 15, 1975, regardless of where they served. The public is invited to attend the ceremony or visit the Louisiana Vietnam Veterans Memorial inside Veterans Memorial Park, which lists the names of Louisiana soldiers lost in the war by parish.

Event sponsors include local organizations such as The Johnson Firm, Port of Lake Charles, Neurosurgery Consultants, CASCIO Sports & Orthopaedics, Optimum, Acadian Ambulance Service, Chick-fil-A, L’Auberge Lake Charles and CHRISTUS Health Southwestern Louisiana. Any cancellations due to weather will be announced prior to the event.

The City of Lake Charles operates under a Mayor-City Council structure with an appointed City Administrator overseeing daily operations according to its official website. The city extends its jurisdiction over Ward 3 in Calcasieu Parish as indicated by city court records, providing judicial services intended to be courteous and efficient for residents according to its official website.

Lake Charles reflects a diverse cultural heritage shaped by early European settlers according to its history page. Early development included Jacob Ryan’s sawmill that contributed significantly to town growth as detailed on the city’s history page. City Council meetings are held in chambers located on Pujo Street as described on the official website.

As Lake Charles prepares this solemn tribute for Vietnam veterans and their families—rain or shine—the community continues efforts both in remembrance and civic engagement.
