The State of Louisiana Joint Legislative Committee on Budget (JLCB) has approved a one million dollar Water Sector Grant for Lake Charles. This decision follows the recommendation from the Water Sector Commission (WSC).

The funds, designated as part of Phase 2 (WSP-P2), will be used to enhance the George H. West Water Plant on North Ryan Street. The upgrades include drilling a new water well with a capacity of two million gallons per day and additional measures to fortify the facility against severe weather, aiming to make it safer and more resilient.

“These grant funds will add to the City’s additional capital fund allocation, allowing us to complete a series of projects that will lead to better service for our residents,” said Mayor Nic Hunter. “The City has a looped water system, so when we talk about improvements at one facility, we are actually talking about improvements for the entire City. Work completed through this project will help us strengthen the capacity of this site, providing resiliency during peak demand periods. As a reminder, in a couple months, we will be cutting the ribbon on a brand new water plant. The City’s water system has never been stronger or more resilient than it is today.”
