The Lake Charles Police Department, in collaboration with the City of Lake Charles, is set to host a National Night Out Community Event on Tuesday, August 5. The event will take place from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the Lake Charles Event Center located at 900 Lakeshore Drive.
Attendees will have the chance to engage with officers from various divisions within the department and other local public safety agencies. The event will feature demonstrations by SWAT teams, Crime Scene Investigations units, Traffic Motorcycles, among others. A variety of vendors will also provide free resources and information.
The National Night Out will include a jambalaya cook-off with complimentary servings available while supplies last. Additional activities such as fun jumps for children, a car show, and food trucks offering concessions are planned for attendees.
Lake Charles Police Chief Shawn Caldwell stated, “Our National Night Out Community Event provides citizens with the opportunity to meet and interact with officers from our many divisions in one location, while gathering important information about a variety of resources available to them.” He added that it is an opportunity for police to hear citizens’ concerns and build stronger relationships within the community.
National Night Out events occur nationwide on the first Tuesday of August each year. These gatherings aim to improve relations between neighbors and law enforcement by fostering positive interactions.
Sponsors for this year’s event include Albertson’s, Coca Cola, Target, Glad Tidings Church, Lake Charles Event Center, Market Basket, Patel McDonald’s and Palm Tree Party Rentals.
