Lake Charles Fire Chief Delton Carter has been appointed by the Louisiana Fire Chiefs Association Board to serve as its representative on the Property Insurance Association of Louisiana Board of Directors, according to a Mar. 10 announcement from the City of Lake Charles.
This appointment is significant because the Property Insurance Association of Louisiana (PIAL) plays a key role in evaluating fire protection and building code enforcement, which helps determine insurance ratings for communities across the state. The organization works with fire departments, municipalities, and insurers to assess risk and promote improved fire protection practices.
“I am honored to be selected to represent the Louisiana Fire Chiefs Association on the PIAL Board of Directors,” said Chief Carter. “I appreciate the trust the LFCA Board has placed in me, and I look forward to contributing to the important work of strengthening fire protection and supporting the communities we serve across Louisiana.”
The City highlighted that this appointment reflects confidence in Carter’s leadership and dedication. Mayor Marshall Simien said, “We are extremely proud of Chief Carter and his appointment to the PIAL Board. His experience, professionalism and commitment to public safety make him an outstanding representative for the City of Lake Charles, the Lake Charles Fire Department and the Louisiana fire service. As we recently completed our PIAL evaluation and await the final results, we are especially pleased to see Chief Carter’s expertise throughout this process being recognized at the state level. His leadership will benefit not only our community, but communities across the state.”
The City of Lake Charles operates under a Mayor-City Council structure with an appointed City Administrator managing daily operations according to its official website. The city extends its jurisdiction over Ward 3 in Calcasieu Parish as indicated on its official website and aims to provide courteous judicial services for residents there according to court records. City Council meetings are held at City Hall on Pujo Street as detailed online.
Lake Charles’ history includes early growth fueled by Jacob Ryan’s sawmill according to historical records, reflecting a diverse cultural heritage shaped by European settlers as noted by city historians.
Chief Carter’s new role is expected to strengthen connections between local expertise in Lake Charles and statewide efforts focused on risk assessment, fire protection ratings, and community resilience.
