Congressman Clay Higgins announced funding allocations for waterway projects in South Louisiana as part of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Fiscal Year 2025 Army Civil Work Plan. The funding aims to support various infrastructure initiatives across Louisiana’s 3rd District.
“Maintaining our ports and waterways is an investment in our future,” Congressman Higgins stated. He emphasized his office’s commitment to working with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and local stakeholders to prioritize necessary funding for dredging and other waterway projects in the region. “The FY25 Work Plan provides critical support for our ports, waterways, locks, and flood control infrastructure across Louisiana’s 3rd District,” he added.
Operation and maintenance projects within the district have been awarded significant funds, including $48,541,000 for the Atchafalaya River and Bayous Chene, Boeuf, and Black; $7,276,000 for Bayou Lafourche and Lafourche Jump Waterway; $1,035,000 for Bayou Teche and Vermilion River; $2,082,000 specifically for Bayou Teche; $34,559,314 allocated to Calcasieu River and Pass; $15,432,000 dedicated to Fresh Water Bayou; $26,159,000 set aside for the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway; $14,967,000 intended for Houma Navigation Canal; $10,597,000 designated to Mermentau River; along with a smaller allocation of $17,000 earmarked from Intracoastal Waterway to Bayou Dulac.
Construction projects have also received attention with a notable allocation of $9 million directed towards continuing sediment disposal site construction related to the Calcasieu River and Pass project.
Investigation efforts will be supported by a fund of $2 million dedicated to preconstruction engineering and design at the Port of Iberia.
Mississippi River and Tributaries projects are not left out either. They have been awarded various sums: $650 thousand aimed at completing floodwall analysis related to the Atchafalaya Basin project; a substantial sum of over seven million dollars marked specifically ($7.761 million) toward designing as well as constructing feature three under Morganza-to-the-Gulf endeavors alongside another significant contribution reaching just above thirty-one million dollars ($31.197M) toward channel enhancements coupled together alongside guidewall repairs undertaken through these comprehensive Atchafalaya Basin undertakings altogether cumulatively considered here now
