The City of Lake Charles, in collaboration with Phillips 66, is set to host the “Phillips 66 STEM Family Fun Day in the Park” on Saturday, June 14. The event will be held at Drew Park from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. and is free for all attendees.
Families attending can expect a variety of activities designed to engage children in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) learning. Among the planned activities are making elephant toothpaste, glitter slime, lava lamps, fire snakes, volcanoes, dry ice bubbles, and sensory play. The Children’s Museum will also be present with a race car activity that allows children to engineer their own racetrack.
Lake Charles Mayor Nic Hunter expressed enthusiasm about the event’s return. “When we launched Partners in Parks in 2018 our goal was to create new partnerships that would allow us to make transformative changes to our City parks without additional financial burden or taxation to our citizens,” he said. “We are thrilled to once again collaborate with Phillips 66 and the Children’s Museum on this free event that promises educational fun for the entire family.”
Megan Hartman from Phillips 66 highlighted the importance of STEM education: “STEM education is important for our future workforce. Phillips 66 has a passion to provide children opportunities to explore STEM concepts and inspire them to pursue a STEM-related career.” She emphasized their partnership with local organizations as crucial for making such events possible.
Allyson Montgomery from the Children’s Museum noted the value of hands-on learning experiences provided by such events: “Children learn so much through play and it is essential for visual learners.”
The event will feature snacks like cotton candy and popcorn while beverages will be supplied by Lake Charles Coca-Cola. It remains open to everyone interested.
