McNeese State University junior Ana Hollweg has been named the Southland Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week after contributing to her team’s 2-0 start in conference play. This is the fourth weekly honor for McNeese players this season and Hollweg’s second, with her previous recognition coming on February 10.

“Ana has taken a huge step forward this season, and it’s showing in everything she does on the court,” said head coach Sonia Carlson. “Going 4–0 this weekend was no surprise — she competes with relentless energy and brings fire every single day. This is her second Player of the Week award and already the fourth for the Pokes this season, which says a lot about the level this group is competing at. She’s leading by example and raising everyone around her.”

Hollweg finished last weekend undefeated, winning both singles matches at Flight 4 and both doubles matches at Flight 3 during road contests against Lamar University and Incarnate Word. She won all four matches in straight sets, including a dominant singles performance against Lamar’s Savannah Bijlsma (6-0, 6-0) and UIW’s Luciana Paez (6-1, 6-2).

The Cowgirls improved their overall record to 12-1 and extended their winning streak to seven games after securing two 5-2 victories over Lamar and Incarnate Word on the road.

“I’m really proud of the grit this team showed all weekend. These were true team wins against two tough opponents in Lamar and UIW. We competed with toughness, stayed locked in during big moments, and fought for every point together.

“Playing 10 straight matches on the road isn’t easy, but this group has embraced the challenge and continues to build momentum with every match,” Carlson added.

McNeese will return home for its first match since February 2 to host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Saturday, March 7 at 11 a.m., beginning a stretch of four consecutive home matches.
